Father Jerome J. Kamla

Fr. Jerome J. KamlaFather Jerome J. Kamla, at the age of 93 and a priest for 66 years, died on Thursday, June 26, 2008 in Mesa Arizona.


Father Kamla was born on August 4, 1914 in Arcadia, New York to John and Mary (née Kowahl) Kamla. He attended Saint Stanislaus Elementary School in Arcadia, Wisconsin, St. Bonaventure High School in Sturtevant, Wisconsin and Saint Francis Seminary in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was ordained on May 14, 1942 at St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral in La Crosse, by the Most Reverend William R. Griffin.


Father Kamla’s first assignment was as Assistant Pastor of Saint Michael Parish in Wausau. On February 18, 1944 he was appointed Administrator of Saint Mary Parish at Czestochowa. In 1953 he was assigned as Pastor of Saint Michael Parish at North Creek and Saint John the Apostle Parish at Whitehall. On June 4, 1957 Father Kamla was appointed Pastor of Saint Francis Xavier Parish at Knowlton and Saint John the Baptist Mission at Peplin. He served as Pastor of Saint John the Baptist Mission until 1961 and at Saint Francis Xavier Parish until 1967. In 1967 he was appointed Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish at Wisconsin Rapids. On October 26, 1977, Father Kamla was appointed Pastor of Saint Joseph Parish at Galloway, where he served until his retirement in 1983. Father Kamla has resided in Mesa, Arizona since his retirement. He assisted at All Saints Parish in Mesa, Arizona from 1993 until May of 2008.


Father Kamla is survived by a sister, Dorothy.


Father Kamla was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Joachim and one sister Monica.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at All Saints Church in Mesa, Arizona. The Reverend Robert J. Caruso will be the main celebrant. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Mesa on Wednesday, July 2 at 10:00 a.m.

Visitation will be held at All Saints Church on Monday, June 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

The Diocese of Phoenix and All Saints Parish in Mesa, assisted the family with the funeral arrangements.
